Block play is open ended, offering children to explore different elements of development through physical, social, emotional and cognitive development. It allows children to learn sequences, spatial reasoning, creativity, problem solving and comparing. It promotes children’s social development working alongside peers on projects, engaging in open ended questions challenging each other’s thinking. Block play promotes children’s fine and gross motor development through hand-eye coordination. It gives children a sense of achievement and satisfaction, building their self-confidence. Mathematics plays a huge role in block play as it teaches children about gravity, balance, weight, shape and size through experimentation… not to mention the Science in block play, promoting children’s engineering skills!
